Can you say trailblazer here? Samsung not merely looks on the other hand when developers make custom ROMs for its phones, it genuinely started sending a free Galaxy S II to select modders to play around with. One of them is Atinm, section of the ultra-popular CyanogenMod crew, who bragged on Twitter about getting his free phone in the mail from Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy S-II ROM modding has become a favorite way to unlock other functions inside your phone, get rid of carriers’ bloatware, or simply just mix and match the looks and functionality of a smartphone to your liking, since the dawn of Windows Mobile devices. With the advent of Android, custom ROMs, and particularly Cyanogen, have sometimes become the only way to obtain timely updates to newer versions of Google’s mobile OS, with the carriers taking their sweet some time and all.

Samsung, however, just took things to the latest level sending the guy that worked tirelessly on the Vibrant and Captivate CM7 projects a complimentary Galaxy S II to toy with. With other talented modders reportedly getting their Samsung Galaxy S II units too, this may as well prove a killer strategy through the company. A phone’s attraction to the modding community sometimes ensures years of healthy interest in confirmed handset by customers as well (think the G1). The current trend of Sony Ericsson, Motorola and HTC all vouching to unlock their bootloaders only confirms that manufacturers are awaking to that fact. What is your opinion, will this move by Samsung make a hot Android handset even hotter?
